Growth leads SiteSpect to shift Boston headquarters

Web optimization firm SiteSpect Inc., which lists companies such as Wal-Mart, Staples and Overstock.com in its customer database, has moved its headquarters to a new downtown Boston location. CEO Eric Hansen said that the move was driven by continued growth in its workforce. The company now has 40 employees, up by more than a dozen in the past year, and will be hiring multiple candidates in several of the six areas where it has openings today. The headquarters moved from Beacon St. to Milk St. “The biggest throttle to our growth right now is recruiting, finding the best people,” said Hansen. Hansen said SiteSpect has been bootstrapped since its founding in 2004. The company’s growth is tied to the boom, Hansen said, noting, “The main thing is that people are doing more and more business online. Even though the economy has been soft, things didn’t get as bad online. Now that things are swinging back up again, e-commerce people are really doing quite well. Those are our customers. SiteSpect touts its offering as a non-intrusive optimization solution. The company offers optimization services such as A/B testing, where different special offers are alternated on a client website, behavioral targeting or personalization, mobile services and web acceleration. The “non-intrusive” aspect stems from the fact that testing and other services are performed on a website at the presentation level, with SiteSpect working on test versions of the site away from the main server. Recommended changes can then be employed by the client across its servers. “That lets people look before they leap. It’s been a huge part of our success in looking at how people take our tools and put things into practice,” said Hansen.
